A new Civilization game is in the works for PC. Announced today for release on October 21 this year, Civilization VI is the 25th anniversary title in the franchise (which launched in 1991) and is under development by 2K Games studio Firaxis, longtime developer of the franchise and co-founded by its creator, Sid Meier.
Lead designer Ed Beach, as quoted above, seems very keen to build on what was achieved with Civilization V (including a number of enhancements that came in expansion packs) while encouraging players to approach the game in a new way. This all comes from a new interview at Rock Paper Shotgun.
“You can’t just burn through the tech tree the same way in every game because the map is going to force you to think through things,” Beach says.
